USPS prices are commercial (online-postage) rates; UPS prices are Daily Rates plus this week's fuel surcharge — not counter/walk-up prices for either carrier.
Adding all three lets us account for dimensional weight and oversize fees on large, lightweight boxes — common for tall or trailing succulents. UPS checks dimensional weight on every box; USPS only when it's over 1 cubic foot.
Checking this adds USPS's Live Animal & Perishable Handling Fee to the USPS totals below — $7.50 for Priority Mail Express and USPS Ground Advantage, or $15.00 for Priority Mail. UPS doesn't charge an equivalent fee for domestic live plant shipments.

Flat-rate pricing applies regardless of weight (up to 70 lb) or destination, as long as your package fits in the box. Only Priority Mail offers flat-rate boxes — Priority Mail Express only offers flat-rate envelopes, USPS Ground Advantage doesn't offer flat-rate packaging at all, and UPS doesn't offer flat-rate packaging on Daily Rate accounts.
USPS estimates use USPS commercial prices effective July 12, 2026 — the rate available through USPS Click-N-Ship or a PC Postage provider (Pirate Ship, Stamps.com, etc.), not the higher price of paying at a Post Office counter. This matches USPS's own published commercial rate table; some high-volume shipping platforms negotiate further discounts beyond this. UPS estimates use UPS's published Daily Rate guide plus the fuel surcharge in effect as of 2026-08-31 — UPS adjusts this surcharge weekly, so it will drift out of date and should be refreshed periodically. Both carriers' totals include dimensional weight and standard oversize/handling fees (70 lb max for USPS, 150 lb max for UPS) calculated for shipments from our Chino, CA shop (ZIP 91710), but not every accessorial fee (e.g. UPS's Delivery Area Surcharge or seasonal demand surcharges) is modeled.
